Velcro self-adhesive

Self-adhesive hook and loop tape is a convenient and versatile fastening solution for quickly and securely joining different materials. This adhesive hook and loop tape is ideal for smooth surfaces such as wood, plastic, and metal, and is often supplied as a handy hook and loop tape for reusable use.

What is self-adhesive Velcro?

Self-adhesive hook and loop fasteners, also known as adhesive hook and loop fasteners, are made up of two parts: the hook side (male) and the loop side (female). These are simply pressed together to form a strong, reusable bond. The adhesive backing makes the hook and loop fastener easy to apply without tools.

Applications of hook and loop tape

Hook and loop tape is widely used in a variety of industries, from DIY projects to professional applications. It is ideal for temporary or permanent attachment to smooth surfaces such as:

  • Wood
  • Plastic
  • Metal

Important considerations when using

Although self-adhesive hook and loop is easy to use, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • It adheres less well to fabrics or rough surfaces such as walls.
  • The adhesive layer is not resistant to moisture.
  • On wood it is often secured with staples for extra grip.
  • For fabrics we recommend the sewable version of Velcro.
  • For rough surfaces such as walls, fabric glue can be used in combination with sew-on hook and loop tape for a strong attachment.

Advantages of self-adhesive hook and loop tape

Self-adhesive hook and loop fasteners offer a range of advantages:

  • No tools required : The self-adhesive layer ensures quick attachment.
  • Clean removal : Leaves no adhesive residue on smooth surfaces.

Comparison between self-adhesive, sew-on hook and loop and textile glue

Depending on the application, it is important to choose between self-adhesive, sewable hook and loop and the use of textile glue for rough surfaces. The table below shows the differences:

Characteristic Self-adhesive Velcro Sewable Velcro Sewable Velcro + Fabric Glue
Confirmation method adhesive layer Needle and thread Fabric glue and needle and thread (optional)
Suitable for fabrics No Yes Yes
Suitable for rough surfaces Less suitable Less suitable Yes, when using textile glue
Water resistance Not water resistant Water resistant Depending on the type of glue
Use on hard, smooth surfaces Excellent Possible, but less practical Less practical, textile glue is mainly for fabrics

When to use textile glue?

Fabric glue is a great solution when you want to attach hook and loop to a rough surface or fabric, but self-adhesive hook and loop does not adhere strongly enough. Fabric glue can be used with sew-on hook and loop to create a reliable and durable bond, especially on rough or porous materials such as fabric, cardboard, or even walls.

Fabric glue works best in combination with sew-on hook and loop fasteners, where you apply the glue to the back of the hook and loop fastener and press it firmly onto the surface. For extra strength, the hook and loop fastener can also be sewn on, especially for heavy use.
